Do you have experience in woodwork and upcycling?If you love nothing more than upcycling, creating new items out of old items and generally enjoy a bit of DIY crafting then this volunteer role is perfect for you! CPL’s Capalaba service centre is looking for volunteers to assist clients with creating bird houses, picture frames and other wooden items in their woodwork programme!We are looking for volunteers who have experience in woodwork and designing/creating simple items to mentor and assist clients with a passion in woodwork to create their own designs! You must be confident and experienced in using power tools such as sanders, jigsaws and power drills.As woodwork volunteer hand you will be:Preparing the designated work area for the woodworking program.Assisting clients to put on protective clothing before embarking on their woodwork project eg. apron, protective eye wear and ear muffs if (using a power tool).Encouraging and engaging clients to pursue and develop their hobby/interests in woodwork.Creating such items as bird houses, small storage boxes, wooden crates for plants, wooden trays, restoring picture frames and any other small wooden items that the client may wish to make.Assisting staff and clients to tidy and clean the designated work area at the end of the program, which includes locking away tools, washing paint brushes and sweeping the area.Sharing your talent and expertise with staff to allow for ongoing projects.This volunteer opportunity can be on any day between Monday/Tuesday/Friday that suits you, and will take place between 9.30am and 2pm.You will be provided with all equipment needed to participate in the volunteer role, including protective equipment.Make a difference and support people with a disability to live the life they choose!Please note, at CPL all staff and volunteers must hold either a valid Blue Card with Yellow Card Exemption or a Yellow Card.
